Emerson is a JD–MBA candidate at Michigan State University College of Law, where he is also pursuing the Indigenous Law Certificate. Previously, he served as Legislative Director for Judiciary Committee Chair Sarah Lightner in the Michigan House of Representatives and executed various communications, legislative, and campaign roles for State Senator Mark E. Huizenga in the Michigan Senate. During his time at the State Capitol, he completed the Michigan Political Leadership Program and earned an associate’s degree in Native American Studies: History and Law at Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College. Emerson began his career after graduating from Calvin University with a Bachelor of Arts, double-majoring in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Studies (Business, Sociology, and Philosophy). During his studies, he served as Student Body President, interned in Congress, and led project and business development work in the private sector. Emerson is building a career partnering with Tribal Nations on matters of governance, government affairs, legal representation, and economic development.
