Son of West Michigan

Emerson’s sense of belonging and identity in West Michigan is a primary motivator for his continued investments in his community. While his career may take him elsewhere for a season, his heart will always be in his hometown.

As a graduate of Byron Center Christian Middle School, South Christian High School, and Calvin University, Emerson’s education was built upon Christian values. As a person of faith, Emerson’s relationship with the Creator provides his framework for decision-making and the foundation for his values. To this end, he believes that the most important thing he can do in this life is to pursue the renewal of institutions, promote justice, and celebrate the unique humanity within others.

Both sides of Emerson’s extended family have maintained a tradition of community service that he aspires to mirror in his own life. His maternal great-grandfather, Joseph F. Deeb Sr., was appointed by President Truman as US District Attorney for West Michigan in 1940. Both of his grandfathers — Larry Silvernail and Joseph Deeb — served their respective communities on Kent County municipal boards as Republicans. Emerson intends to follow in their political footsteps as a common-sense Republican and participate in shaping the future of the party.
